ABA RLC Support for a Lightweight Requirements Center of Excellence

An Architecture-Based Analysis Requirements Life Cycle [ABA RLC] is designed to support organizations in establishing a Community of Practice (CoP), Center of Excellence (CoE), or Operational Excellence (OpEx) program.  Regardless of the structure your organization uses (we will assume CoE for purposes of brevity), it must include requirements definition and management as a central component in order to be successful.

Most organizations struggle to get the organizational adoption and justify the resources they need.  However, by making the CoE itself lightweight - less structured and more tightly tied to organizational key performance indicators (KPI requirements), returns on CoE investments can quantified, justified and therefore sustained.

The ABA RLC should be introduced to your organization using a structured 5-step process (see figure below). While the ABA RLC is a key component of any  CoE program, it is just one part of a broader framework that includes:

  • Governance

  • Integration with other disciplines (e.g., project management, architecture, risk, and change management)

  • Training

  • Performance Assessment & Management

  • Application & Tool Integrations

  • Knowledge Management Repository

By incorporating these elements, organizations can create a well-rounded CoE program that drives continuous improvement and sustainable success.
